12 hours to inspect a SSIV and a 26” spool section

Mission context
This case study focuses on the subsea inspection of strategical elements of an offshore gas field. The SSIV manifold and its associated internal areas, when accessible, were included in the scope to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the system’s condition and integrity. The existing 26” spool, flanges and pup piece location, extending from the SSIV flange to the pup piece interface were also covered to assess continuity and alignment.
In this context, the mission scope for IVM focused on providing a detailed inspection and documentation of these key structural and connection elements, with particular attention to mechanical interface and overall condition of the subsea piping system (spool section inspection) between the SSIV and the downstream connection point.
IVM Solution
The Hydro 3000 (previous generation of the Hydro 6000) was deployed on a work-class ROV, mounted at the extremity of the 7-function manipulator, a configuration that proved highly effective for accessing and scanning the SSIV manifold, including complex geometries and otherwise hard-to-reach areas from multiple viewpoints. Overall, the entire SSIV and 26” spool section was successfully scanned within a 12-hour operational window, including vessel movements, ROV relocations, shift changes, and data downloading. All external surfaces were covered—roof as well as north, south, east, and west faces—ensuring full spatial coverage of the installation for downstream analysis and modeling.
