The Falcon ROV is widely used by subsea inspection service providers across a range of applications, typically down to depths of 300 m. Despite its lightweight and compact design, it is equipped with five thrusters, enabling precise maneuverability and providing a stable platform, even in moderate currents and turbulent conditions. Its modular architecture also allows for straightforward customization, making the integration of the Hydro 100 photogrammetry system efficient and practical.
Field validation of an integrated photogrammetry solution
This integration was completed in a single day with Underwater Contracting Ltd (UCO). Following mechanical preparation to integrate the Hydro 100, the IVM and UCO teams carried out initial validation through a short inspection in Aberdeen port. As an existing Falcon ROV operator, UCO aimed to assess the operational benefits and data quality achievable with an integrated photogrammetry solution.
The combination of the Hydro Series and the Falcon ROV is not new.
Previous integrations have already been carried out with the Hydro 300 and Hydro 1000 system, demonstrating the compatibility of the platform with different photogrammetry configurations. These past deployments have provided consistent results in terms of data acquisition and reconstruction quality, supporting the use of this setup for a variety of inspection scenarios.
